The Woman Behind The Brand

The Woman Behind The Brand

In 2020, I was in bed lamenting my life when I remembered a scripture: “You are the salt and light of the earth,” (Matthew 5:13-14). In biblical times, salt was as valuable as gold, but with $5.53 in my bank account, I didn’t feel very valuable or light-bearing. So I did what I do best—I went to sleep.

That same night, I had a dream about a building I owned sometime in the future. I woke up frantically writing everything I saw and heard in a notebook. It was vivid, detailed, and so out of my reality, but strangely familiar. At that moment, I had no idea how to get from where I was to where I saw myself. I realized I needed to look backward to find the motivation to start when everything was pressing me be stagnant.

A deep dive into my origin story led me to listen to the biographies of the women in my family—the men they loved, the work they adored, the hardships they faced head-on, the businesses they anchored and the streets named after them —gave me an unwavering belief that what I was being asked to build is about longevity, not speed. These women didn’t rush or chase trends; they built lives, legacies, and healing traditions that stand as tall as the oak tree my great-great grandmother planted in the front yard over 100 years ago.

Slowly and steadily, I mixed the science I’ve studied in textbooks over the years with the wisdom of salves and ointments my grandmother mixed. Salt & Savor came from a desire to find my place in womanhood, in my family line, and in God’s call for my life as a healer. It was never just about making products—it was about reviving the art of medicine, intentional living and land-grown care that women have practiced for centuries.

Healing, in its most effective form, has always relied on the land, the community, and the hands of women. But somewhere along the way, we almost let that knowledge fade away. Salt & Savor is my attempt to pick it back up—one soil-grown solution at a time.

So here’s to the women before us. The ones who knew that medicine was more than something you bought in a bottle. The ones who blended herbs with their hands, soothed wounds with their voices, and carried wisdom in their bones. Here’s to restoring what was almost lost—and savoring every bit of it.
